The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a major probe into fraudulent and non-compliant files submitted by the Social Health Authority (SHA) and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
According to a statement released on Friday, October 3, 2025, the DCI received 1,188 files on September 1, 2025, containing details of individuals, organizations, and entities suspected of involvement in healthcare fraud.
The fraudulent activities are believed to have undermined government efforts to deliver quality health services to Kenyans.
A multi-agency team led by the DCI is conducting an extensive review of the files.
So far, five suspects have been arrested and are scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, October 6, 2025.
They will face charges under various laws, including the Penal Code, the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act, the Social Health Insurance Act, and the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
Authorities confirmed that additional arrests are expected as investigations progress, with more suspects already identified pending approval from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
DCI emphasized its commitment to safeguarding public resources and ensuring that healthcare services are not compromised by fraud.
The agency also assured the public that all assets and funds acquired fraudulently will be traced and recovered.
“The DCI remains resolute in its commitment to stopping healthcare fraud, holding all offenders accountable, and ensuring that quality healthcare services are delivered to all citizens,” the statement read.
