Five tourists of Indian origin have been confirmed dead while several others were injured in a road accident at Gichaka village along the Nakuru-Ol-Joro Ork road in Nyandarua County.
According to the police report, the tourists were travelling from Masaai Mara to Nyahururu in a mini bus on June 9, 2025 when its brakes failed while descending a hill towards Ol-Joro Orok.
The bus plunged into a ditch as the driver attempted to negotiate a sharp corner near Uhuru Comprehensive school at Gichaka.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus rolled several times before landing in a nearby potato farm.
The incident was confirmed by Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono, who explained that the five died on the spot while other passengers were rescued and rushed to Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital.
Some victims of the accident were taken to St Benedict hospital in Nyahururu and others were rushed to Nakuru hospitals.
Meanwhile, police have accounted for 25 tourists who were in the bus during the tragic incident.
