FKFPL: Sofapaka stage dramatic comeback to hold Mara Sugar in Dandora thriller

Sofapaka FC produced a spirited second-half fightback to earn a 2-2 draw against Mara Sugar FC in a thrilling FKF Premier League clash played on Wednesday afternoon at Dandora Stadium.

The game started evenly, with both sides creating early chances. In the 14th minute Sofapaka keeper Edward Olak set up Bramwel Simiyu, whose shot went narrowly wide.

Olak then turned hero at the other end in the 29th minute, pulling off a fine save to deny Mara Sugar an opener. Andrew Waswa had a chance to give Sofapaka the lead just before the break, but his powerful header sailed over the bar as the teams went into halftime locked at 0–0.

Mara Sugar came out stronger after the restart and quickly took control. David Owino Mwiti broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, before Timothy Ndayala doubled the visitors’ advantage nine minutes later, leaving Sofapaka with a mountain to climb.

The 2009 league champions refused to give up, and Stanley Lugalia pulled one back in the 71st minute to give his side hope.

The hosts pushed forward relentlessly, and their efforts paid off deep into stoppage time when Joseph Kuloba struck in the 90+5th minute, completing a dramatic comeback and securing a vital point.

The draw sees Mara Sugar move up to 10th place with 6 points from 5 matches, while Sofapaka climb to 13th with 5 points pending other matches results.

FKF Premier League midweek action continues on Wednesday, October 29, with Shabana hosting AFC Leopards at Gusii Stadium (2 PM) and Ulinzi Stars taking on Bidco United at Ulinzi Sports Complex (4 PM). On Thursday, October 30, Mathare United will face Gor Mahia at Kasarani Stadium (4 PM).
