FKFWPL :Ulinzi Starlets awarded win after Zetech Sparks field Ineligible Player, FKF ruling intensifies title Race

The FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee has ruled in favor of Ulinzi Starlets FC following a protest regarding player eligibility in their FKF Women Premier League match against Zetech Sparks, played on March 8, 2025, at Ruaraka Grounds.

The committee found that Zetech Sparks fielded Bertha Omita without a finalized transfer or a valid FKF license, in violation of league regulations.

According to the committee’s findings, Omita’s transfer to Zetech Sparks had not been completed prior to the match, and the club failed to present her FKF license for verification during pre-match inspections.

Additionally, the referee’s report listed Omita on the team sheet but without a license number, further confirming the breach. Article 3.8.3 of the FKF Regulations states that players whose licenses are not presented at inspection are ineligible to play, and Article 3.8.4 mandates forfeiture of the match in such cases.

As a result, Zetech Sparks were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player and have forfeited the match, with the three points awarded to Ulinzi Starlets FC.

This decision has significant implications for the Women’s Premier League title race, as Ulinzi Starlets now close the gap to just two points behind leaders Kenya Police Bullets with one round of fixtures remaining3.

Kenya Police Bullets, who sit atop the table with 43 points, will secure back-to-back league titles with a win or draw in their final match against Trinity Starlets.

However, should they lose and Ulinzi Starlets defeat Kisumu Allstars, Ulinzi could leapfrog them to claim their maiden championship.

The FKF’s swift enforcement of regulations underscores the importance of compliance and fair play in Kenyan women’s football. With the title race now set for a dramatic conclusion, all eyes will be on the final round of matches to determine the 2025 champions.
