Four members of the campaign team for former Chief Justice and United Green Movement (UGM) Party presidential aspirant David Maraga wer Tuedsay night seriously injured in a road accident.
The accident occurred Tuesday night as the team was traveling from Nyamira County back to Nairobi, after accompanying Maraga on party engagements in the region. According to a statement shared by Maraga on his X account media, a lorry veered off its path, lost control, and swerved into their lane, colliding with the vehicle carrying the team members.
“We have been informed of a ghastly road accident that has occurred, involving four of our campaign team members. They have all been rushed to hospital, the four are part of a team that was driving from Nyamira back to Nairobi having accompanied the @UGMParty Presidential Aspirant, CJ (Emeritus) Maraga.” Maraga posted.
“We understand that: ‘A lorry veered off the road, lost control and swerved into us on our lane.’ We are following the situation closely. We are in touch with our colleagues. We ask that you keep them in prayer as the Doctors and nurses attend to them.” he stated.
The four were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Details on the exact nature of their injuries remain scanty as the situation continues to be monitored.
David Maraga, who served as Kenya’s Chief Justice from 2016 to 2021 and is renowned for his role in annulling the 2017 presidential election, officially launched his 2027 presidential bid earlier this year.
The party has positioned itself on principles of constitutionalism, social justice, and environmental conservation.
The accident comes as road crashes across the country continue to spike especially during this festive season.
