Former Shabana head coach Peter Okidi has been named the SportPesa League Coach of the Month for February after guiding the Gusii-based side to a flawless run of results.
Okidi beat stiff competition from William Muluya of Kariobangi Sharks, Patrick Odhiambo of Kakamega Homeboyz, and Charles Akonnor of Gor Mahia to clinch the accolade.
The award caps a stellar February in which Okidi led Shabana FC to four straight wins, registering a perfect 100 percent record. His side scored five goals and conceded none, keeping four clean sheets in a disciplined defensive display that underlined their growing consistency.
The impressive run saw Shabana climb to 40 points in the SportPesa Premier League standings, boosting their push for a strong finish this season.
Shabana kicked off the month with a narrow but crucial 1-0 win over Bandari FC, a side coached by former assistant Bernard Mwalala. They followed it up with a solid 2-0 victory against Posta Rangers FC, showing improved attacking cohesion.
Okidi’s charges then edged past Tusker FC 1-0 in a tightly contested clash, further proving their defensive resilience against one of the league’s traditional heavyweights.
The highlight of the month came at Nyayo National Stadium, where Shabana sealed a dramatic 1-0 win over Mathare United. Captain George Onyango Dizzo rose highest to head home a corner from Bronson Nsubuga deep into stoppage time, capping off a perfect month.
This marks the second time Okidi has won the monthly award this season, having previously been recognised in November following another impressive unbeaten run that included key away victories over Kenya Police FC and Ulinzi Stars.
