Former TSC boss Nancy Macharia declines Governor Kang’ata’s job offer

Former Teachers Service Commission (TSC) CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia has declined her nomination to chair the Murang’a County Public Service Board, citing a new international offer and concerns over the role’s full-time demands.

Dr. Nancy Macharia, who recently concluded her tenure as CEO of the Teachers Service Commission, issued a letter dated June 25, 2025, addressed to Governor Kang’ata, Dr. Macharia expressed gratitude for the nomination but stated she had accepted another offer from an international organization that would conflict with the county’s role’s expectations. The letter was submitted just a day before she was scheduled for vetting on Friday.

“I hereby thank you for nominating me for the Chair of the Murang’a County Public Service Board. However, I decline the post as I have received another offer from an international body, which, in my opinion, could affect my performance in the said role,” Dr. Macharia wrote.

She illustrated that she had realized that the position would require a full-time commitment, whereas she had hoped for a part-time engagement.

Governor Kang’ata had nominated her alongside Dr. Louis Mwende Musikali, Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua, and Dr. Brian Lishenga Makamu as members of the Board.

Oscar Kimani Gathura was nominated as Secretary to the Board. The nomination of Dr. Macharia came shortly after her tenure at TSC was set to conclude on June 30, 2025.
