Four Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Homa Bay have been removed from the committees they have been serving, sparking claims of unfair treatment and lack of due process.
The legislators, West Kasipul MCA Vickins Bondo, Arujo Ward MCA Tonny Otheo, Kabuoch North MCA Boaz Khiri and Nominated MCA Pauline Omogi, say the decision was made under unclear circumstances, noting that no formal explanation was given by the Parliamentary Party leadership of the Homa Bay County Assembly.
Speaking to the media, three of the four MCAs linked their removal to a recent visit to the home of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, where they held talks on development issues.
They maintained that the engagement was aimed at sourcing additional resources to complement county funding.
West Kasipul MCA Vickins Bondo said committee membership had provided a crucial platform to articulate the needs of residents, terming the move an attack on the electorate’s mandate.
On his part, Arujo Ward MCA Tonny Otheo announced plans to move to court, seeking a High Court interpretation on whether the Parliamentary Party has the authority to discharge independent MCAs from committees they serve.
Kabuoch North MCA Boaz Khiri defended the visit to the Interior PS, arguing that county resources alone are insufficient to meet development needs.
He added that leaders should be respected across political divides, insisting that development should have no boundaries.
The County Assembly Speaker, Polycarp Okombo, via a phone call interview said the removal was just as a result of normal changes in the assembly and has nothing to do with external politics.
