Kenyan businessman and political figure Jimi Wanjigi recently opened up about a decision that radically altered the course of his life: quitting alcohol.
Speaking candidly with comedian and host, TV47 and Radio47’s Dr. Ofweneke, Wanjigi detailed the profound change he experienced after giving up drinking at the relatively young age of 25.
Before his 25th birthday, Wanjigi, who is a well-known figure in Kenya’s business and political spheres, was a regular drinker. He explained that as he matured and focused on his ambitions, he began to see alcohol as an impediment to his progress.
“Alcohol was taking growth away from me,” he admitted during the interview.
He realised the consumption was actively subtracting from his potential and decided to make a decisive change.
Wanjigi describes the moment he stopped as a complete shift in his trajectory. It wasn’t just about sobriety, it was about unleashing his full capacity for work and personal development.
The effect on his life, Wanjigi says, was immediate and dramatic. He gained a clearer focus on his business ventures, he found more time and energy for productive work, and lastly the decision aligned with a desire for holistic personal growth.
While Wanjigi is recognised for his immense wealth and influence, he firmly believes that the commitment to a sober life was a critical foundation for his achievements.
He stressed that once he removed the distraction and the drag of alcohol, his true potential began to emerge. The discipline gained from this one decision spilled over into every other aspect of his life.
“My life changed completely after I stopped drinking,” Wanjigi emphasised. “It was the start of the growth you see today.”
Wanjigi’s story serves as a powerful testament to the impact that a single, conscious decision can have on one’s long-term success, proving that clarity can be the ultimate currency for growth.
