From potholes to progress: Sakaja’s facelift rebuilds Nairobi’s key hubs—Industrial Area, Eastleigh, and Starehe

Nairobi’s busy business hubs—Industrial Area, Eastleigh, and Starehe—are among the first beneficiaries of the ongoing road regeneration program spearheaded by Governor Johnson Sakaja in partnership with the National Government and the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA).

In Industrial Area, works are progressing on Kitui Road and Road C, including base repairs, drainage upgrades, and resurfacing with a 35mm asphalt overlay. Key sections near major factories are also being reconstructed to ease cargo movement and support manufacturing.

In Eastleigh, rehabilitation of Hombe, Muinami, and Quarry roads is underway, with drainage reconstruction and full resurfacing already taking shape.

Starehe has also seen improvements, with works on Chai Road, Kombo Munyiri Road, and Mweni Road now at 4 percent progress. Drainage systems and road markings are scheduled for completion in the coming months.

Beyond these hubs, other areas are also set to benefit. Roads in Parklands, Kabete, and Zimmerman have been added to Nairobi’s upgrade list, while Eastern Nairobi is witnessing the construction of the Sh204 million Mihango Bypass and adjoining estate roads. Meanwhile, Dagoreti, Kilimani, Lavington, and Kileleshwa are next in line for comprehensive road upgrades.

Governor Sakaja says the program is designed to ease transport, unlock business potential, and give Nairobi a long-overdue facelift.
