From Tahidi High to rock bottom: How Omosh found redemption away from the spotlight

Omosh, the beloved actor opens up about his battle with substance abuse and finding purpose beyond mainstream entertainment.

In a raw and deeply moving episode of Fame Files, former Tahidi High star Omosh Kizangila takes viewers on an emotional journey from television stardom to personal struggle, and ultimately to redemption that money can’t buy.

At the peak of his career, Omosh was a household name bringing laughter to millions. But behind the cameras, fame became his prison, clouding his judgment and leading him down a destructive path of drugs and substance abuse.

When intervention became necessary, many expected a triumphant return to screens. Instead, Omosh chose a different path.

“It’s not rehab that changed me,” he states firmly during his candid conversation with host Jackie Mungai. “It is my willingness to change and giving my life to Christ that saved me.”

Today, operating from Murang’a County, Omosh has discovered a new calling. The Fame Files episode captures him at Murang’a Teachers College, working with his team on a play about drugs and substance abuse, using his story to warn others about the very dangers he overcame.

“I am now serving God, I am very grateful and thankful,” Omosh shares, his voice carrying a peace that fame never provided.

His parting message to Kenya’s youth is both encouraging and cautionary: “The youth should not shy away from their talents and the entertainment industry. But in everything they do, they should do it sober.”

Rather than clinging to past glory, Omosh has embraced mentorship. “I am now leaving that space for new talent and teaching the up-coming ones.”
