Gachagua allies facing terrorism charges set for plea taking at Kahawa Law Courts

Two individuals identified as allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Peter Wanjiru, popularly known as Kawanjiru, and Serah Thiga, are today expected to appear before the Kahawa Law Courts at 9:00 a.m. for plea taking on serious terrorism-related charges.

The highly anticipated plea session was initially scheduled for yesterday, Monday, July 7, but was postponed due to the widespread Saba Saba protests that gripped the nation.

The court had unequivocally directed both the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to present the suspects for arraignment without any further delay, underscoring the urgency of the matter.

In a significant development for the defence, the court also granted the legal team, led by Senior Counsel Kalonzo Musyoka and advocate Andrew Muge, access to the accused at their respective detention facilities ahead of today’s critical proceedings.

Kawanjiru is currently held at Ruaraka Police Station, while Thiga is detained at Capitol Hill Police Station.

The duo faces terrorism-related charges stemming from the alleged large-scale destruction of government offices in Kikuyu.

Authorities claim these incidents were part of coordinated acts of sabotage, raising the stakes significantly for the accused.

The unfolding legal battle is keenly watched, not only for its implications on the suspects but also given their perceived links to the former Deputy President, a narrative that has already drawn considerable public and political attention.
