Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has escaped through nearby bushes after chaos erupted at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, shortly after issuing a desperate plea and claiming that he and his supporters were under siege.
Through his social media, the DCP Party leader declared that the church was attacked, leading to him and other congregants being trapped inside.
“We are marooned in church, being attacked with live bullets and tear gas, and my vehicles. We ask Kenyans to pray for us to come out alive,” Gachagua stated

The dramatic claim has sent shockwaves through the political landscape, quickly amplified by visual evidence circulating online.
The attached videos appear to corroborate elements of chaos with spent bullet casings littering the ground, multiple vehicles with shattered windshields, and trucks releasing plumes of tear gas in proximity to the church compound.
The violence led to panic erupting among worshippers, including women and children.
The situation prompted an immediate condemnation from Wiper Patriotic Front Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who framed the incident as an assault on constitutional order.
“I strongly condemn the violent attack… where former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his team, together with unarmed leaders and civilians, are trapped inside a place of worship as live bullets and tear gas are deployed and vehicles torched outside,” Musyoka stated. “This is a grave and unacceptable violation of the Constitution and the rule of law. A church is a sacred and protected space.”
Kalonzo placed direct responsibility on law enforcement.
“I hold the Inspector General of Police and all those responsible fully accountable for the safety of Rigathi Gachagua, his team, and all civilians inside the church.” He added, “No political ambition or rivalry can ever justify terrorizing citizens or attacking a place of worship.”
At the moment of writing police had not issued any statement in relation to this event.
