Gachagua joins Kenyans in mask protest honoring hawker Boniface Kariuki

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has expressed solidarity with Kenyans who wore face masks today to honor Boniface Kariuki, a hawker reportedly shot at close range by Police Officer Kilinzy Barasa.

Gachagua made these remarks in Meru during a political rally, accompanied by leaders from his “Democracy for the Citizen” party.

The initiative to wear face masks was spearheaded by comedian and activist Eric Omondi. Omondi utilized his social media platforms to call for unity, stating, “I am calling upon Kenyans all over the country, this Friday let’s all wear masks in celebration of our brother Eli Joshua/Bonface Kariuki.”

Celebrities, students, companies, politicians, boda-boda riders, and Kenyans from all walks of life have observed the day to celebrate and honor Boniface Kariuki.

The “Sisi Kwa Sisi” chairman visited the scene where Boniface was shot and lay fighting for his life. He also distributed masks to Kenyans on the streets of the Central Business District (CBD).

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti shared a picture of herself wearing a mask, demonstrating her solidarity with Kenyans in honoring Boniface Kariuki.

Kenyans from various parts of the country, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Baringo, and Machakos, among other counties nationwide, have participated in the tribute.
