Police in Gatundu South, Kiambu County, have launched a manhunt for an assistant chief from Kamunyu sub-location who is accused of drugging and assaulting two underage boys in a shocking incident that has left the local community reeling.
The administrator, who has since gone into hiding, is alleged to have committed the offences on April 20, 2025. One of the victims told police that he and two friends had gone to the assistant chief’s home to deliver milk when the official invited them into a separate house and offered them muratina, a traditional brew.
The victim said that after his friends left to check on a neighbour, he remained behind and lost consciousness shortly afterward. He later woke up at home, confused, in physical distress, and covered in mud. A medical examination confirmed he had suffered abuse. The matter was reported at Gatundu Police Station under OB No. 04/24/04/25.
Later that same night, the assistant chief allegedly followed the remaining boys to a nearby compound. One of them said the administrator approached him with inappropriate questions and conduct before attempting further abuse. The boy managed to escape and has since provided a statement to the police.
Both minors are said to be recovering at home but remain fearful as the suspect remains at large. The assistant chief reportedly fled upon learning that angry residents were looking for him.
Community members have expressed shock and disappointment, describing the suspect as a long-serving local official who once trained for religious leadership. Parents Mary Wambui and Jane Njoki said the accused had been trusted and respected, making the allegations even more disturbing. They also claimed he attempted to bribe the victims’ families to stay silent.
Some residents now believe there may have been previous, unreported cases involving the same individual, possibly suppressed through threats or coercion.
Gatundu South Assistant County Commissioner Rose Chege confirmed the incident, noting that investigations are ongoing and efforts to apprehend the suspect are underway. “We have ensured the victims received medical attention, and we are committed to pursuing justice,” she said.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward.
