Gem Member of Parliament (MP) Elisha Odhiambo has asked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to respect Kenya’s security agencies.
Speaking on Thursday July 17, 2025, Odhiambo said that institutions such as the National Intelligence Service, the Kenya Police Service, and the military play a vital role in safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and should not be used as pawns in political battles.
Odhiambo who spoke during a meeting with women in Gem constituency stated that those agencies should not be undermined whatsoever, noting that anybody who does so is not only irresponsible but poses a risk to national stability.
“Before he left to the US, Wamunyoro accused NIS of having formed a group that is kidnapping Kenyans. That is totally false, the responsibility of NIS is to collect information, and provide that information to DCI for taking action.
“To mislead Kenyans by talking against institutions that represent our national unity is out of order,” said Odhiambo.
He criticized Gachagua for allegedly using social media influencers to target senior government officials, including Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, labeling such actions as disheartening and destructive.
The MP further dismissed Gachagua’s ongoing U.S. tour, where he is reportedly engaging only with Kenyans from the Mount Kenya region, suggesting this undermines national unity.
On matters of party loyalty, Odhiambo defended ODM leader Raila Odinga’s stance on the Broad-Based government, calling on the party’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Saboti MP Caleb Amisi to respect party leadership.
He challenged Sifuna and Amisi to resign and seek alternative political platforms if they were uncomfortable within ODM, reiterating that as a party, they are in the Broad-Based government to stay.
