Geoffrey Mosiria warns youth against fake job agents preying on overseas dreams

Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Geoffrey Mosiria, has issued a strong warning to young people about the rising number of fake job agents who promise employment abroad but end up scamming their victims.

Taking to his X account, formerly Twitter, Mosiria said he has received multiple distress calls from youth who have lost large sums of money after trusting individuals posing as legitimate recruitment agents.

He described the trend as a growing threat to the future of young people seeking opportunities outside the country.

“Be very careful. Many thieves are pretending to take people abroad in the name of securing jobs, only to steal their money and abandon them once they get there,” Mosiria wrote.

According to him, some victims are taken out of the country using tourist visas while being falsely told they have been issued work permits.

Once they arrive, they are left stranded without legal documentation, employment, or any form of support.

“Some are taken abroad using tourist visas, yet the agents lie to innocent clients that they are being issued work visas.

Once abroad, these victims are dumped without jobs, legal documents, or support,” he said.

Mosiria urged young people and their families to take extra precautions before engaging anyone who claims to offer overseas employment opportunities.

He emphasized the importance of verification through official channels to avoid falling into the hands of fraudsters.

“Always verify agents through the relevant government offices and embassies before paying any money,” he advised, adding that unrealistic promises should be treated as a red flag. “If a deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

Mosiria also called for collective action to expose and report such individuals, saying silence only empowers scammers to continue exploiting vulnerable youth.

“Together, we must expose these scammers and stop them from destroying the future of our youth,” he stated.

His message has sparked conversations online, with many users sharing similar experiences and calling for stricter regulation of recruitment agencies and stronger enforcement against fraud networks targeting job seekers.
