Georgina Njenga opens up about her struggles with alcohol and mental health: “I wasn’t drinking for fun”

Kenyan influencer Georgina Njenga has opened up about her personal battle with alcohol and mental health, revealing a side of her life that many of her followers never saw.

Speaking candidly in a recent podcast interview, the digital content creator shared how her drinking habits were deeply rooted in her emotional struggles, rather than the pursuit of fun or social enjoyment.

“I was drinking to escape my mental health, not for fun,” Georgina confessed.

Her statement painted a raw picture of someone battling internal demons, using alcohol as a coping mechanism rather than a recreational outlet.

She described how her drinking would often spiral out of control, leading to reckless behavior that she would later regret.

“After getting drunk, I could get so mad and being drunk I’d decide to post on my socials or just do something stupid,” she admitted, referencing the impulsive decisions she would make under the influence, often in the public eye.

Georgina went on to detail some of the darker moments she experienced during this time.

“I used to be so drunk… I could get into fights,” she revealed, highlighting just how dangerous and unpredictable her drinking had become.

Realising the toll it was taking on her mental and physical well-being, as well as her public image, Georgina made a life-changing decision.

“That’s when I told myself, I’m not stopping, but I’m taking a break,” she said.

The distinction was important to her, as it acknowledged the difficulty of quitting while allowing her to regain a sense of urgency over her choices.

Today, the 23-year-old and mother of one, is 51 days sober, a milestone she takes pride in. While she’s careful not to label it a permanent goodbye to alcohol, she emphasises the value of her progress so far.
