Residents of Giathieko Village in Ngewa Ward, Githunguri Constituency, Kiambu County, have gone two years without access to clean and safe water, severely disrupting their daily lives.
Their tap dried up after the main pipeline from the Githunguri Water Company ceased operations under unclear circumstances, despite residents continuing to pay their water bills.

They now walk long distances to fetch water, while others rely on a single inadequate water source.
The shortage has hit dairy farming which is the key economic activity in the area, forcing some residents to sell their cows where they are now accusing local leaders of ignoring the crisis for two years.
Residents say they now want permanent solution to the water problem, adding that they cannot afford to buy water daily activities from private vendors.
They further note that children are required to carry water to area schools, which have no water supply, a situation they warn exposes families to serious health risks.
