Golf: Wanjiru, Soni face off in the Kenya Junior Match Play final

The 2025 NCBA Kenya Junior Match Play Championship is set for a thrilling conclusion as Belinda Wanjiru of Vet Lab Sports Club and Tsevi Soni of Sigona Golf Club prepare to face off in the 36-hole final on Thursday, August 14, at the Sigona Golf Club.

The two young golfers have emerged as the final contenders for the coveted “R&A Trophy” after three days of intense competition.

Wanjiru secured her spot in the final with a tense semi-final victory over her home clubmate Mikael Kihara at the 18th hole. Soni, on the other hand, earned his place by birdying the 17th hole to match Golf Park Golf Club’s Kevin Anyien’s birdie and clinch the victory on the spot.

The final is expected to be a tactical battle on the lush but challenging Sigona Golf Course, which features towering trees and fast greens.

Fans can anticipate strategic risk-taking and momentum swings as every hole will be a contest. Meanwhile, Mikael Kihara and Kevin Anyien will also compete on Thursday in an 18-hole match for the third and fourth places.

The championship continues to provide a vital platform for young golfers to shine and prepare for success on bigger stages, thanks to the partnership between NCBA and the Junior Golf Foundation.

The Junior Golf Foundation is a project of the Kenya Golf Union and the Kenya Ladies Golf Union, responsible for the growth and development of golf among junior players aged 21 and below.
