Kenya’s miraa farmers and exporters are poised for greater days ahead after receiving the go-ahead to export the stimulant to Djobouti.
In a statement on Wednesday, July 23, the Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) notified the public and stakeholders that negotiations between the two countries had paved way for the legal and regulated access to the Djibouti market.
AFA further said that there have been a successful trade engagement initiated by a trade mission to Djibouti in October 2024, and a reciprocal visit by a Djibouti delegation in November 2024.
“This new development marks a major milestone in diversifying Kenya’s miraa export markets,” said AFA Director General Bruno Linyiru. “The traders are encouraged to take advantage of this new commercial opportunity and link up with buyers in Djibouti for business engagements.”
Exporters interested in this venture are needed to comply with the Djibouti’s import regulations such as obtaining necessary permits and adhering to product standards. Moreover, the traders must comply with requirements by relevant regulatory and government institutions in Kenya to ensure smooth trade operations
