Gor Mahia begins search for new coaching team following technical bench overhaul

Gor Mahia Football Club has officially begun the search for a new technical team just days after confirming a complete overhaul of its bench.

The club parted ways with head coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno and the entire technical staff, including team security, in what it described as a mutual separation effective July 2, 2025.

The move comes after a disappointing 2024/25 season that saw the record 21-time FKF Premier League champions finish the campaign without a trophy.

Gor Mahia lost the league title to Kenya Police and fell short in the FKF Cup final to Nairobi United a double blow that ended their streak of domestic success dating back to 2016.

Determined to chart a new course, the club is now inviting qualified candidates to apply for the positions of Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach.

In a detailed announcement, Gor Mahia described the Head Coach position as one requiring “a highly qualified, experienced, and visionary leader” to guide the senior team in delivering success both locally and across the continent.

The ideal candidate must have a CAF A Pro Diploma or UEFA Pro License (or its equivalent), at least eight years of coaching experience at top-level football, and a proven record of winning league titles, cups, or performing in continental competitions.

Among the responsibilities will be overseeing the team’s tactical and technical preparation, planning training sessions, and making tactical decisions during matches.

Experience in African leagues and multilingual ability, especially English, will be considered an added advantage.

The Assistant Head Coach role is also open for applications. This position will support the Head Coach in technical management, opposition analysis, and player development.

According to the club, it is seeking a professional who is “highly skilled, motivated, and disciplined” to help shape the team’s future. A CAF B License is required, and a CAF A License is an added advantage.

The club prefers candidates with at least five years of experience in a similar role and a strong grasp of modern football tactics and player development.

The recruitment team notes that shortlisted candidates for both roles will be offered competitive packages, with contract terms negotiable depending on experience.

Interested applicants are required to email their CVs, cover letters, and coaching certifications to [email protected].

The deadline for the Head Coach application is Monday, 10th July 2025 at 5:00 PM (EAT), while the deadline for the Assistant Head Coach role is Thursday, 10th July 2025 at 5:00 PM (EAT).
