Gor Mahia striker Felix Oluoch will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing knee surgery, the club has confirmed.
The forward, who leads K’Ogalo’s scoring chart this campaign, has been ruled out for up to three months following an operation to treat an osteochondral injury and a torn meniscus.
Team doctor Brian Odongo confirmed that the procedure was successful and outlined the expected recovery timeline.
“Felix Oluoch successfully underwent knee surgery for an osteochondral injury and torn meniscus yesterday. He is stable and is expected to return to play in 12 weeks depending on his rehabilitation progress and recovery milestones achieved,” Odongo said.
The 12-week recovery period effectively rules the forward out for the rest of the current campaign, with his return likely to come at the start of next season.
Oluoch has been instrumental for K’Ogalo this term, scoring seven goals to top the club’s scoring chart.
His absence leaves a significant void in the attacking department at a critical stage of the season.
With the transfer window closed, head coach Charles Akonnor will rely on the options currently available in his squad.
Akonnor confirmed that the responsibility of leading the line now rests with Ebenezer Assifuah and emphasized the need to carefully manage the striker’s fitness.
“Felix is now out and probably until next season. We are now left with Ebenezer Assifuah as the main striker and we have to manage him well so that we go about the remaining matches without a major setback,” Akonnor said.
The former Ghana international also hinted at strengthening the squad once the transfer window reopens, particularly in the striking department.
“We may have to add another striker when the window opens as we aim to up our standards for bigger stages,” he added.
Gor Mahia currently top the league standings with 49 points, six ahead of AFC Leopards, as the title race enters a crucial stage.
