The Principal Secretary for Sports, Elijah G. Mwangi, alongside his counterpart from the Forestry Ministry, PS Gitonga Mugambi, and senior officials from the Kenya Forestry Service and Kenya Urban Roads Authority, conducted an inspection tour of the ongoing construction at Talanta Sports City.
The delegation expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work being delivered by the contractor.
The ambitious project, which has provided employment to 3,500 workers—2,000 on the day shift and 1,500 at night—is on track for completion by December 2025.
Talanta Sports City is poised to become one of the flagship venues for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which Kenya will co-host, and is also earmarked for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for August 2025.
PS Mwangi reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to hosting major continental tournaments, noting that the country has already honored its hosting fees for CHAN 2025 and is finalizing preparations at all relevant venues. The government’s investment in Talanta Sports City and other stadiums underscores Kenya’s determination to meet international standards and boost its profile as a premier sports destination.
The stadium is expected to feature state-of-the-art facilities, supporting not only football but also athletics and other sporting disciplines. The project is seen as a catalyst for job creation, urban development, and sports tourism in the region.
With construction progressing smoothly and stakeholder support high, Talanta Sports City is set to play a central role in Kenya’s sporting future, offering a world-class venue for both local and international events.
