Government declares zero tolerance for political violence

The Government has reiterated its firm commitment to upholding peace, protecting democratic freedoms, and ensuring that all Kenyans can express themselves without fear or intimidation.

Speaking during a visit to Rutune School in Nyeri County, the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, emphasized that the current administration will not tolerate violence, hooliganism, or any form of unlawful conduct in the country’s political and social spaces.

Dr. Omollo underscored that every Kenyan has the constitutional right to express their views freely, but this must be exercised within the framework of the law.

He noted that while political actors and citizens are free to engage in public discourse, any cases involving violence, intimidation, or unlawful mobilization must be addressed through proper legal and investigative processes.

“This administration reaffirms its position that hooliganism and disorder will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and security agencies remain vigilant in ensuring accountability and maintaining public order,” he said.

The Principal Secretary also highlighted ongoing efforts by National Government Administration Officers, under the leadership of the Nyeri County Commissioner, Josephat Biwot, to strengthen community safety and address emerging social challenges.

In Nyeri County, security teams have intensified operations against illicit alcohol and called for closer collaboration between national government officials, chiefs, assistant chiefs, village elders, and elected leaders to protect lives and preserve social cohesion.

He also raised concern over cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), urging communities to work together to protect vulnerable persons and uphold the dignity and safety of all residents.

During the visit, Dr. Omollo held consultations with the school’s leadership and Sub County education authorities and noted the need to increase student enrollment and strengthen academic performance.

Despite having adequate teaching staff, the school currently has low enrollment, highlighting the importance of stronger parental and community involvement.

He pointed to ongoing national education reforms, including the recruitment of over 100,000 teachers, construction of more than 25,000 classrooms, implementation of Competency-Based Education, and reforms in university funding aimed at strengthening human capital development.

He further noted that the transition rate from primary school to Junior Secondary School in Nyeri County currently stands at 99 percent, reflecting strong progress in education continuity.

Addressing the congregation and students, the Principal Secretary for Energy, Mr. Alex Wachira, emphasized the importance of education, faith, and community support in shaping the future of young people.

He encouraged students to remain disciplined and focused, assuring them that perseverance, resilience, and commitment to their studies will open doors to opportunity and help them achieve their full potential.

Mr. Wachira emphasized that education is a shared responsibility and called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to work together to ensure every child has access to quality education.

Dr. Omollo further outlined major development projects underway in Mukurweini Constituency, including road infrastructure valued at Ksh. 2.9 billion, construction of modern markets worth Ksh. 162 million, affordable housing projects valued at Ksh. 980 million, and student hostels with a capacity of 3,000 beds.

These investments reflect the administration’s commitment to equitable development, economic growth, and improved livelihoods across the country.
