Government dismisses Gachagua’s claims of attempted poisoning

President William Ruto’s government has dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s allegations of a plot to poison him.

Speaking during an interview on TV47, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, termed Gachagua’s remarks as smear allegations that were very inciteful.

According to Mwaura, the former DP was attempting to popularize his newly launched Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) by allegedly inciting Kenyans against the Kenya Kwanza Government.

He emphasized that the government was not in any way interested in taking away Gachagua’s life, adding that President Ruto’s administration was committed to protecting every Kenyan.

“If you are a law-abiding citizen, you don’t have to worry. These are just smear allegations that are very highly inciteful to stock emotions, and therefore, they should be dismissed with the contempt they deserve,” said Mwaura.

In addition, Mwaura termed Gachagua’s allegations as outrageous and laughable, explaining that the government’s role was to maintain law and order.

“The government is there to maintain law and order. The government will only come to you if you are not able to account for your actions. For example, if you are a corrupt leader, if you are an inciter, and also seeking political mileage by declaring very outrageous statements,” he emphasised.

Mwaura’s remarks emerged a few hours after Gachagua alleged a plot by the government’s top security agencies to poison him over his strong opposition against Ruto’s government.

Speaking on Monday, May 19, 2025, the former DP claimed he received an intelligence report suggesting that the Head of State had ordered security agencies to deal with him decisively.

“While attending a church service in Gatanga Constituency yesterday, I received intelligence reports that there were orders to have me dealt with once and for all,” Gachagua claimed.
