The government has reaffirmed its commitment to intensify the fight against illicit drugs and alcohol in Mombasa County through coordinated, intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling trafficking networks and protecting communities.
Taking it to his X account, Principal Secretary, State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, Raymond Omollo said the campaign is anchored on the presidential proclamation on alcohol and drug control, which calls for a whole-of-government approach.
“The government remains firmly committed to curbing the production, distribution, and consumption of illicit drugs and alcohol,” Omollo said, noting that enforcement, prevention, rehabilitation, and asset recovery are being pursued simultaneously.
He explained that in Mombasa, the strategy is already yielding results through multi-agency operations that are disrupting supply chains and denying criminal syndicates the benefits of their illicit trade.
According to Omollo, strengthened anti-narcotics enforcement has led to more arrests and the forfeiture of criminal assets, which are being redirected to support recovery and prevention programs. He emphasized that justice reforms are also playing a key role in sustaining the momentum.
“Through strengthened anti-narcotics enforcement, offenders are being arrested, illegal operations shut down, and criminal assets forfeited to the State to support recovery and prevention efforts.”
The Principal Secretary further highlighted the strategic importance of the Port of Mombasa and other entry points in the fight against drug trafficking.
“Crucially, the Port of Mombasa and other key entry points are being strategically fortified through coordinated, multi-agency operations led by the Border Control and Operations Coordinating Committee (BCOCC) under the State Department for Interior and National Administration, tightening surveillance and sealing traditional trafficking routes,” he stated.
Omollo concluded that the integrated approach reflects the government’s resolve to protect the youth, restore socio-economic stability, and safeguard communities in and around Mombasa County.
“This integrated approach underscores the government’s resolve to protect communities, safeguard the youth, and restore socio-economic stability by confronting drug and alcohol abuse firmly and comprehensively in and around Mombasa County,” he said.
