Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) Chairperson Dhado Godhana has taken the fight for job opportunities for coastal region residents right to the doorstep of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).
This is after the Tana River Governor paid a high-level courtesy visit to KPA Managing Director Captain William Ruto, to address growing public outcry over employment opportunities for residents of Tana River County and the wider coast region.
Speaking after the meeting, Godhana said the discussions focused on ensuring that local communities benefit more from opportunities at the port authority while also strengthening cooperation between KPA and regional leadership on key development priorities.
The talks also delved into the implementation of a water transport development project expected to open up new economic opportunities and improve connectivity across coastal counties.
Both sides agreed to convene a broader consultative meeting bringing together different stakeholders and the KPA management to explore concrete areas of partnership and ensure coastal communities are not left behind.
The meeting also turned attention to the environmental crisis threatening the Tana Delta, where sea water intrusion and the collapsing sea wall in Kipini continue to endanger livelihoods and fragile ecosystems.
Both leaders pledged to push for sustainable interventions to protect the delta and safeguard coastal communities.
