Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has expressed deep sorrow following the sudden death of his close friend and former Lugari Constituency Legislator Cyrus Jirongo, who died in a tragic road accident.
Jirongo died in a road accident on Saturday, December 13 morning at Karai in Naivasha, along the Nakuru- Nairobi Highway.
Rift Valley Regional Traffic Commander Sara Chumo confirmed that Jirongo died on the spot in the 3am crush.
According to the traffic boss, Jirongo was headed in the direction of Nairobi in his Mercedes Benz before he collided head on with a bus that was headed the opposite direction.
“We are sad to announce the death of politician Cyrus Jirongo in road crash along Nakuru- Nairobi highway,” Chumo said.
In a heartfelt condolence message, Governor Lusaka said he received the news with profound shock and sadness, describing Jirongo as a longtime friend whose warmth, generosity and commitment left a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.
“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I received the devastating news of the passing of my dear and longtime friend Cyrus Jirongo,” Lusaka said.
He added, “His sudden departure is a painful and irreplaceable loss.”
The governor eulogized Jirongo as a deeply committed soul whose presence brightened every space he occupied, noting that his influence went beyond politics to touch many lives across the country.
“Cyrus was a warm, generous and deeply committed soul whose presence brightened every space he occupied, leaving lasting impressions on all who knew him,” Lusaka stated.
Lusaka said Jirongo’s death is not only a major blow to his immediate family and friends, but also to the wider community that benefited from his leadership, mentorship and friendship over the years.
The Ford Kenya governor extended his heartfelt condolences to the Jirongo family and loved ones, urging them to draw strength and comfort from cherished memories shared with the departed.
“On my behalf and on behalf of all who stand with me, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Jirongo family and loved ones during this moment of deep grief,” he said.
Governor Lusaka also prayed for God’s comfort and peace for the bereaved family, asking for strength as they come to terms with the painful loss.
“May God grant you strength, comfort and peace drawn from the cherished memories you shared, and May the soul of our departed brother and friend rest in eternal peace,” Lusaka noted.
Others who have mourned the veteran politician include; National Assembly Speaker Dr. Moses Wetang’ula, Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera and President William Ruto.
The MPs remains were transported to Lee funeral home for preservation.
