Guinness World Records confirms Truphena Muthoni’s 48-hour tree-hugging record as Kenyans await verdict on 72-hour feat

Kenyan environmental champion Truphena Muthoni has officially entered the Guinness World Records books after her 48-hour tree-hugging marathon was formally verified while her more recent 72-hour attempt remains under review.

Muthoni, 22, successfully completed the initial 48-hour endurance challenge between January 31 and February 2, 2025.

Guinness World Records confirmed the achievement after examining all required evidence, including video documentation, witness logs, and timing records.

The certification was announced just a day after Muthoni pushed her limits even further, embracing a tree for an extraordinary 72 hours in a second attempt aimed at amplifying awareness on forest protection, climate action, mental health, and the growing threat of deforestation.

Her latest feat has generated widespread excitement, with Kenyans flooding Guinness World Records’ social media pages to rally behind her.

“Kenya has a new world record holder,” wrote supporter Fredrick Timotheo, urging the organisation to recognise the 72-hour performance.

Guinness World Records has acknowledged the public interest, confirming that it is waiting for the formal submission of evidence before making a ruling. “We look forward to receiving the evidence,” the organisation stated.

Muthoni first drew global attention when she became the first Kenyan ever to set a tree-hugging world record earlier this year at Nairobi’s Michuki Memorial Park.

Her blend of activism and extreme endurance has since inspired many, with environmental advocates praising her for turning a symbolic gesture into a powerful conservation message.

As her 72-hour attempt undergoes verification, Kenyans remain optimistic that the young activist will add a second global record to her name further spotlighting the country’s role in climate and environmental advocacy.
