Guinness World Records recognizes Nigerian chef Hilda Baci for cooking 8,780Kgs of jollof rice

Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has officially earned another place in the Guinness World Records after Guinness confirmed her latest achievement, preparing the world’s largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice.

Partnering with Gino Nigeria, Hilda cooked an astonishing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz) of jollof rice last Friday,12th September 2025 at a vibrant event in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Thousands of supporters turned up to witness the culinary spectacle, complete with live performances and plenty of anticipation.

The star, whose real name is Hilda Baci, prepared the dish in line with Guinness’ strict rules, which required certain ingredients and precise measurements.

Her record-breaking recipe included 4,000 kilograms of basmati rice (making up over 80% of the total weight), 164 kilograms of fresh goat meat, 220 kilograms of Gino Asun & peppered chicken cubes, and 600 kilograms of her signature jollof pepper mix.

It took “nine hours of fire, passion and teamwork,” along with 1,200 kilograms of gas, to produce the massive meal, which was served on 16,600 plates.

As per Guinness requirements, none of the food was allowed to go to waste, and it was distributed to attendees with what Hilda described as “joy, love and community.”

Videos shared on her Instagram show excited crowds finally tasting the long-awaited dish after hours of enduring its irresistible aroma. Many praised not just the quantity but also the flavor.

Reflecting on the challenge, Hilda admitted: “I didn’t realize it would be this hard and it has been a challenge.

“It’s a lot of hard work but really satisfying to achieve the record. This achievement also belongs to the people of Nigeria as they all contributed to the achievement.”

This isn’t her first time making history. In May 2023, she captured global attention with her 93-hour, 11-minute cooking marathon, which set the record for the longest individual cooking marathon.

That attempt in Lagos attracted worldwide coverage and even caused the Guinness website to crash as fans eagerly awaited confirmation.

Since then, the cooking marathon record has changed hands multiple times, with Ireland’s Alan Fisher extending it to 119 hours 57 minutes in October 2023 and Australia’s Evette Quoibia pushing it further to 140 hours 11 minutes in February 2024.

Still, with Guinness now recognizing her latest jollof rice feat, Hilda Baci has once again placed Nigeria firmly on the culinary world map.
