Police in Nairobi County have recovered a firearm in Dandora after responding to a tip-off from members of the public about suspicious individuals believed to be armed.
According to a statement shared by the National Police Service (NPS) on its official X account, officers at Dandora Police Station received information at around 1:00 a.m. about three men spotted in the Katoo area of Dandora Phase 5 behaving suspiciously.
“At approximately 1:00 a.m. today, officers at Dandora Police Station received information that three suspicious men, believed to be armed, had been seen in the Katoo area of Dandora Phase 5,” the statement read.
Police officers quickly responded to the report and moved to the location, where they reportedly encountered the suspects.
However, the individuals fled upon noticing the officers, leaving behind a jacket during the escape.
“Upon noticing the police, the suspects fled the area, abandoning a jacket as they escaped,” NPS said.
After securing the scene, officers searched the recovered clothing item and discovered a firearm hidden inside.
“A search of the recovered jacket led to the discovery of a Desert Eagle .50 AE Magnum pistol concealed inside, with no ammunition,” the statement added.
The firearm was confiscated and recorded as evidence, while police launched a manhunt for the suspects believed to be connected to the weapon.
“Police officers are pursuing the criminals in order to apprehend and arraign them in court,” NPS confirmed.
The National Police Service also praised residents for cooperating with security agencies by sharing information that helps prevent crime.
“The National Police Service commends the public for providing information and the officers for their quick response,” the statement concluded.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious activities to the police.
