Kenyan international and Harambee Stars defender Alphonce Omija has completed a high-profile move to Tunisian football giants Étoile Sportive du Sahel following his standout performances at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The 22-year-old centre-back has been one of Kenya’s most promising defensive talents, and his exploits during CHAN 2024 caught the attention of scouts from several top clubs across Africa.

Étoile du Sahel, a club with a rich history and one of Tunisia’s most successful teams, moved quickly to secure his signature.

Alphonce Omija was officially unveiled on Tuesday, with photos shared by the club showing the towering defender signing his contract alongside club officials.

The move is expected to give him a chance to compete at the highest level in African club football, including the CAF Champions League, where Étoile du Sahel are regular contenders.

The defender also took to his Instagram page to share the news with fans, posting a series of pictures of himself signing the contract

He captioned the post: “NEW HOME. A New Chapter Begins @etoile.sportive.du.sahel”, marking the beginning of his journey with the Tunisian giants.

Kenyan football fans have flooded social media with congratulatory messages, celebrating Omija’s move as a positive sign for the national team.

His move to Tunisia now positions him among the few Kenyan players plying their trade in North Africa’s competitive leagues.
