Harun Liluma: Suspended KMPDC official arrested over SHA fraud allegations

An employee of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) is set to face justice after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) moved in to arrest him as part of a widening crackdown on fraud within the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Harun Liluma was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear before the Milimani Law Courts to answer charges of conspiracy to defraud, abuse of office, and computer fraud, offences sanctioned for prosecution by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) following a thorough investigative process by the DCI.

His arrest is the latest move in an intensifying effort by authorities to root out corrupt networks exploiting the SHA, a system designed to provide Kenyans with access to affordable healthcare.

Investigators say the crackdown is far from over, with the DCI signalling its resolve to pursue all individuals and organisations found to be siphoning public funds through fraudulent means.

The case serves as a stark warning to those seeking to take advantage of the public health financing system, as agencies continue to work in concert to protect Kenyans from losing their money to orchestrated schemes.
