The family of slain city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu has called on police to move with speed and arrest his killers.

Speaking at their Maiani home in Kilome, Makueni County, relatives led by his mother eulogized Mbobu as a peaceful, loving, and caring man.

The grief stricken family demanded answers from authorities and urged investigators to fast-track the probe, saying justice for their son can no longer wait.

“Kyalo was a lawyer who was not involved in controversial cases, we cannot understand why someone murdered him in such a devastating manner,” said his younger brother.

This comes a few hours after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on September 10, 2025 assured Kenyans of a thorough investigation into the drive-by shooting of Kyalo Mbobu in Nairobi.

Mbobu was on Tuesday, September 9 around 7:30 pm shot dead by unknown assailant(s) while in a traffic jam along Magadi Road. Eye witnesses say the assailant(s), after executing the assassination, drove off on a motorcycle.

The DCI says that immediately after the incident was reported, a team of detectives — under the leadership of  Nairobi Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO) — visited the scene of the shooting.

After securing the scene, detectives from the DCI Homicide Bureau — supported by experts from the National Forensic Laboratory — carefully examined the scene and collected “critical evidence” essential to the investigations.

“The DCI is committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice,” the DCI says in a statement. 

“Our investigators are working diligently, employing all available resources and expertise to piece together the events surrounding this incident.”
