Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, has once again set social media buzzing after candidly addressing the collapse of her much-publicised marriage, barely three weeks after the lavish wedding that dominated headlines.
In a lengthy and emotional Instagram post, Akothee reflected on the irony of her situation, writing, “Big wedding, small marriage.
Imagine the whole world watching such a beautiful wedding only for it to last three weeks.” She accompanied the post with throwback photos from her wedding day with her ex-husband, Omosh.
The artist, known for her unfiltered honesty, revealed that the marriage ended due to what she described as dishonesty at the start of the relationship.

According to Akothee, her partner failed to disclose critical information about his mental health. “What I, Esther Akoth Kokeyo, don’t accept in a relationship is dishonesty,” she stated, adding, “He never disclosed to me that he has been battling mental health since birth.”
Akothee explained that discovering the truth later made her feel betrayed and emotionally drained. “I was losing myself and had to pick up myself every time he lost it,” she shared, noting that walking away was a matter of self-preservation. “I couldn’t carry on with the ndoa because I felt betrayed.”
Despite facing public scrutiny, Akothee appeared defiant and unapologetic. “Say what you want, do what you can, but since I am not your child, you can’t beat me,” she wrote, pushing back against societal judgment.
She further described the experience as “suicidal if you are not strong,” while praying that her children never face a similar situation.
Dubbed “the queen of marriages” by critics and fans alike, Akothee embraced the label with humor, signing off as the “Certified Chief Officer of Failed Marriages.”
True to her brand, she chose honesty over silence—turning personal pain into a bold public conversation.
