Head of Radio 47 Geoffrey Mung’ou leads talks on expanding partnership between Cape Media and DW

Head of Radio 47 Geoffrey Mung’ou led talks about expanding partnership between Cape Media and Deutsche Welle (DW) during a high-level conference in Germany. DW is Germany’s International Broadcaster.

This was during the Global Media Forum 2025, a two-day high-level conference that brought together journalists, media professionals, and thought leaders from across the world in Bonn, Germany.

The conference that was held from July 7-8, 2025, at the Bundeskunsthalle, Kunstmuseum Bonn, and Deutsche Welle Headquarters, focused on intense deliberations on the challenges and opportunities facing the global media industry.

Speaking to TV47 Digital after the conference, Mung’ou said the expanded partnership between Cape Media and DW will entail co-producing and sharing compelling digital content, doing on-ground activities to engage audiences, sports cross execution and talent search.

In the existing agreement, Radio 47 airs DW news and features (Mtu na Mazingira, Afya Yako) and The 77 Percent and Eco-Africa pieces on TV47.

“We discussed ways to expand the existing partnership, a collaboration I deeply value and believe holds great potential. This partnership is not just strategic; it’s transformational. It reflects our shared vision for impactful, cross-border media collaboration. More developments are on the way,” said Mung’ou.

He was representing Cape Media Limited, which is the company that owns the fastest growing TV and Radio stations in Kenya (TV47 and Radio47).

Meanwhile, the outgoing Director General of Deutsche Welle (DW), Peter Limbourg passionately underscored the critical need for journalists globally to operate in safe environments, emphasizing that content creators require robust protection from restrictive legislation.

Speaking during the conference, Limbourg explained that a free press plays an indispensable role in the functioning of democracy worldwide.

This means that journalists should not just focus on “how” events unfold, but explain “why,” and prioritize rigorous fact-checking to combat the spread of fake news.

At the same time, Limbourg issued a clarion call to nations worldwide to urgently establish mechanisms for regulating Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Some of the key sessions at the conference also focused on how livestreams on platforms like TikTok and Twitch are transforming news delivery, and strategies parties employ to reach wider audiences on social media.
