The High Court in Eldoret has suspended the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) elections that were scheduled for Thursday morning, June 19, 2025.
The decision was delivered by Justice Reuben Nyakundi, who issued a temporary injunction halting the polls pending the hearing of an application by Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA) chair Andrew Mudibo.
This latest development is the culmination of a protracted boardroom battle for the leadership of Kenya’s Olympic governing body.
The elections had already been postponed once before, on April 23, after four federations—Kenya Triathlon Federation, Kenya Volleyball Federation, Kenya Handball Federation, and Taekwondo Federation of Kenya—failed to agree on the officials eligible to vote on their behalf.
The run-up to the elections has been characterized by legal wrangles both in the courts and before the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT).
On the eve of the scheduled elections, the SDT ruled that Andrew Mudibo was irregularly nominated for the secretary general’s post, since his parent federation, KTTA, was not a duly registered sports organization under the Sports Act, 2013, at the time of the NOC-K electoral process.
Despite the SDT ruling, Mudibo has continued to challenge the process, prompting the High Court’s intervention.
The court’s decision effectively puts the NOC-K elections on hold until Mudibo’s application is fully heard and determined.
