Homa Bay Woman Representative Joyce Osogo has called on President William Ruto and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to put in place firm measures to curb electoral violence ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during the launch of her Bensuda Super Cup 2026 tournament at Onundo Stadium in Suba North Constituency, Dr Osogo raised alarm over increasing incidents where politicians allegedly hire goons to disrupt opponents during public gatherings in Homa Bay County and across the country.
She urged the Head of State and the electoral commission to take decisive action to safeguard the democratic process, warning that failure to act could embolden leaders with intentions of inciting chaos.
Dr Osogo expressed concern that some politicians are misusing the democratic space guaranteed under the Constitution, emphasizing that electoral competition should not be equated with violence or intimidation.
The legislator further cautioned youth against being exploited by politicians to cause unrest, noting that such actions only undermine peace and stability.
She reiterated that the forthcoming elections must not result in bloodshed, calling on all stakeholders to uphold peaceful and credible electoral practices.
