How many sexual partners do you have? Know your status, stay safe

“That married person is also seeing someone in a relationship… and that person may also have a sponsor or even a sugar mummy or a sugar daddy.”

That’s the warning shared by Nurse Judy in a personal video, as she highlighted what she describes as a growing cycle of overlapping relationships, particularly in urban areas like Nairobi, thus leading people to spread and contract HIV and STDS.

Her remarks come against the backdrop of concerning national data showing that Kenya is recording at least 54 new HIV infections and 57 related deaths every day, raising alarm among health officials.

In her message, Nurse Judy urged sexually active individuals to take responsibility for their health by getting tested regularly for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

She emphasized that many people may be at risk without realizing it, especially within complex relationship networks.

Kenya continues to carry a significant HIV burden, with approximately 1.3 million people currently living with the virus. Despite ongoing awareness and treatment efforts, the numbers highlight the need for sustained vigilance.

The government is estimated to spend about 19 billion shillings annually on HIV prevention, treatment, and care underscoring both the scale of the challenge and the resources being directed toward managing it.

Health experts stress that early testing remains one of the most effective tools in controlling the spread of HIV. Knowing one’s status not only allows for early treatment but also helps prevent further transmission.

Nurse Judy’s message, though delivered informally through her personal platform, echoes a broader public health call of staying informed, getting tested, and taking proactive steps to protect your health.

As infection rates persist, the focus now shifts to individual responsibility in breaking the cycle and reducing new cases.
