The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr Ouma Oluga, on Monday, May 5 paid a visit to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) as part of efforts to enhance collaboration and transparency in the country’s healthcare supply chain.
During his tour, Dr Oluga familiarised himself with KEMSA’s operations and reaffirmed the agency’s pivotal role in advancing Kenya’s health sector.
He was welcomed by KEMSA Chief Executive Officer Dr Dulacha Ejersa Waqo and later engaged in a consultative meeting with the Board of Directors.
Dr Oluga emphasised the importance of restoring public confidence in the agency by prioritising transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency.
He noted that KEMSA is a key pillar in the healthcare ecosystem, especially in guaranteeing commodity security one of the four foundational pillars of the sector, alongside human resources for health, healthcare financing, and digitisation.
“KEMSA plays a critical role in ensuring uninterrupted access to essential medical commodities. This is vital for the success of Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” said Dr Oluga.
He called on the agency to strengthen its governance structures and streamline its supply chain management to align with the Ministry of Health’s goal of delivering quality, equitable, and accessible services across the country.
The visit signals a renewed push to reposition KEMSA as a reliable and efficient institution at the heart of Kenya’s public health delivery.
By addressing long-standing issues and implementing strategic reforms, KEMSA is expected to contribute significantly to the Ministry’s broader vision for a stronger, more resilient health system.
