How to check your voter registration status using IEBC Voter Portal

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has reinstated its crucial voter verification portal, bringing a sigh of relief to Kenyans after days of unexpected downtime.

The portal, a vital tool for citizens to confirm their registration details, went offline abruptly, sparking widespread public concern and online speculation just two years ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 General Election.

The IEBC attributed the outage to scheduled system maintenance, part of a larger migration to new digital infrastructure. In an unsigned statement, the commission stated, “The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) wishes to inform the public that it is currently undertaking a scheduled system maintenance on its voter verification portal.”

Despite this explanation, the timing and suddenness of the shutdown triggered significant backlash. Kenyans took to social media, questioning the IEBC’s transparency and preparedness, especially given the proximity to the next general election. Many expressed anxieties about the integrity of electoral processes.

The portal’s restoration is a welcome development, particularly for first-time voters and diaspora citizens who rely on the platform to ensure their participation in the upcoming polls. The IEBC encourages all registered voters to verify their details promptly to avoid any last-minute hitches.

How to Verify Your Voter Registration Details:

  1. Visit the Official IEBC Verification Portal: Go to https://verify.iebc.or.ke
  2. Enter the required information: You will need your national ID number or passport number (used during registration) and your year of birth.
  3. Submit the details: Click the “Check” or “Verify” button.
  4. Review your voter registration info: If registered, the system will display your first name, surname, county, ward, polling center, polling station name, and polling station number (stream).

Should you find any missing or incorrect details, or if you cannot retrieve your data, the IEBC advises visiting your nearest constituency office with your original ID or passport. You can also reach out to the IEBC through their helpline or official social media channels.
