Huddah Monroe questions security firms over women working night shifts

Socialite and entrepreneur Huddah Monroe has sparked debate online after calling out Kenyan security companies for assigning women to night duties.

On her Instagram story, Huddah questioned whether such companies were “normal,” insisting that night shifts deny many children the presence and care of their mothers.

Huddah argued that women, especially those raising children alone, should not be placed on night duty when their presence at home is most needed.

“Who sleeps with their kids at night? Do you know how important it is for kids to have their mothers at night?” she wrote, adding that it pains her every time she sees a female security guard working in the late hours.

She emphasized that most women in Kenya juggle single parenthood and employment, making daytime shifts more suitable for their parenting responsibilities.

According to her, allowing women to work during the day while men handle night assignments would support better family stability.

She also noted that women working night shifts often still wake up early to prepare their children for school, leaving them with little rest and increased vulnerability.

Huddah’s remarks quickly stirred mixed reactions, with some praising her for raising an often-ignored issue surrounding labor practices and family welfare.

Others, however, argued that employment choices are influenced by economic pressures, and that many women willingly take night shifts for higher pay or lack of alternatives.

Her comments come just days after she made headlines for stating that she would prefer to remain single rather than marry a Kenyan man, a remark that also triggered widespread conversation across social media.
