“I dated a man with no money, I became mentally unwell” – Shorn Arwa

In a refreshingly unfiltered and humorous interview with Dr. Ofweneke, during the Dr.Ofweneke Tonight show on TV47, digital content creator Shorn Arwa opened up about love, fame, money, and motherhood, with her signature wit and candour.

Shorn Arwa revealed that in relationships, what matters most to her is confidence, not necessarily conversation.

Digital creator and mother of one, Shorn Arwa.

“I like a man who is very confident, just not as talkative as me,” she shared.

Being in the public eye, she said, comes with endless scrutiny. “Sometimes you wake up and hear a lot of things from the vlog. You have to be confident and trust your woman, knowing she has your back.”

She added that the rumors don’t faze her anymore — in fact, she wishes they were more creative. “I hear things about myself and I’m like, ‘aaah no, add some creativity!’”

On money and love

Shorn didn’t shy away from discussing finances in relationships. Reflecting on a time when she was mentally unwell, she mentioned being in a relationship with a man who lacked financial stability. “I was just like, I can’t do this anymore.”

She jokingly differentiated between ‘mbabas’ (older sponsors) and broke older men: “Anybody can be a mbaba. A mbaba without money is called a budaa, baba mzee, or fadhee.

The content creator also shared the pragmatic reason behind her marriage to a Nigerian man.

“At the time, the Kenyan men I was interacting with — there wasn’t enough cash flow.”

Her advice to women? “Love will come. Marry for convenience, the love will grow. Women are taught how to nurture — how to grow the love in the process. If you don’t look at the money, you will suffer.”

Cultural pride and musical tastes

A proud supporter of local talent, Shorn Arwa praised Luo artist Prince Indah, describing him as a great musician.

She expressed a wish for a concert where all Luo artists could perform, so audiences could choose the best among them.

Shorn described her marriage as “beautiful,” giving thanks for her current season of life. On motherhood, she was honest and heartfelt. Initially, she didn’t want children, but after having her son, everything changed.

“I love this one so much. I don’t want another child. I feel like bringing another child will divide my attention and I’ll feel guilty.” She described her son as assertive and “more Nigerian than Kenyan,” clearly proud of his strong personality.

Unlike some celebrities who crave a private life, Shorn Arwa embraces the spotlight.

“This limelight has changed my life so much. In fact, talk about me, lie, even! Just make me as relevant as possible. People look to us to get entertained. I like it here.”

She also spoke about her evolving relationship with money: “Use that money, it’s gonna come back. I’ve learnt to have a good relationship with money. I don’t bank it, I just use it and it always comes back.”

To upcoming content creators, Shorn had a message of hope: “Never give up. Every other thing will fall into place. You’ll find your niche as you proceed.”
