“I don’t have kids”: Okello Max sets the record straight

Kenyan singer Okello Max has set the record straight about long-standing rumors concerning his personal life.

Speaking in an interview with Shiksha Arora, the rising star admitted he falsely claimed to have children, clarifying that the kids fans often associated with him were actually his girlfriend’s younger siblings.

“I don’t have any kids, it was just a lie out of something stupid,” he confessed.

“Everyone kept insisting I had children with my girlfriend, but those were her siblings. The pressure made me go along with it.”

Away from controversy, Okello Max opened up about his musical roots, revealing how music has always been a part of his life.

Growing up, family evenings were filled with hymns that sparked his passion for singing.

His father’s transfer to Lamu later exposed him to taarab and bongo flavor, genres that widened his artistic scope.

It was during this period that he penned his first song, an experience that marked the beginning of his musical journey.

“I sang it to my best friend, and I still remember how excited he was. He even wanted us to share credit.

That moment made me believe I could actually pursue music,” he recalled.

Okello Max’s journey eventually took shape at Moi University, where he began performing in restaurants and experimenting with live music.

Over the years, his growth has seen him transform into one of Kenya’s most notable Luo musicians.

His latest release, Taya, has quickly gained traction, although the singer revealed that he initially doubted its potential.

“I didn’t think Taya was the song for me. Many assumed it was a love song, but in truth, it’s about heartbreak,” he explained.

Now a recognized name in Kenya’s music scene, the Nakufa hit maker, continues to carve his space with a blend of authenticity and raw storytelling, turning personal experiences into melodies that resonate with his audience.
