Kenyan rapper and community activist Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, has confirmed that he will run for a political seat in Kibra, his hometown. This has signalled one of the most notable entries of celebrities into the 2027 election cycle.
On November 4, 2025, Octopizzo tweeted on X, telling supporters that he had listened to their calls and would officially appear on the ballot come 2027.
His announcement came as a response to Dr Austin Omondi, who praised the artist, for his long standing community work in Kibra.
Additionally, the rapper acknowledged the current political tension and collective mourning in the constituency, posting alongside a message referencing “undemocratic acts” and the loss of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was a community figure in the area.
According to Octopizzo, the opposition appears to be disoriented and the government equally unsettled. He suggested that some figures who appeared influential were simply relying on Odinga’s presence for validation rather than showing genuine leadership.
The rapper also used this moment to rally the youth saying the country needed bold, principled leadership rooted in integrity and delivery.
He indicated that Kenya should embrace “creative leadership” instead of recycling the same political faces, adding that the nation requires leaders who cannot be bought, intimidated or compromised.
Octopizzo’s bid is rooted in years of community involvementin Kibra, where he grew up and later established multiple youth-focused programs.
Through his foundation, Octopizzo Foundation, he has supported education, enterprenureship and arts training for young people, giving access to scholarships, creative spaces and mentorship.
His presence on ground has made him a familiar figure in the community, not just as an artist but as a grassroot mobiliser.
