In an exclusive interview with TV47, Truphena Muthoni shares her journey of breaking boundaries in environmental advocacy. Now officially a Guinness World Record holder for her 48-hour tree hug, Muthoni is waiting for evidence to confirm her 72-hour attempt, a feat that would set a new global benchmark.
Muthoni explains how this challenge was to take place in Brazil ,“This record was not supposed to take place in Kenya, it was to take place in Brazil at Kilombo, so I was not able to take part in it because I didn’t get their accreditation which the PS had promised earlier this year March,” she tells TV47. Despite the setback, Muthoni channels her energy into creating impact at home, proving that obstacles do not define the scale of one’s achievements.
During her 72-hour tree hug, medical personnel attended to her, but not because she needed urgent care. “They were trying to get me out of that chaos in an ambulance,” she clarifies, highlighting the intense crowd management challenges she faced as she was in her final minutes to break the challenge
Muthoni’s commitment is deeply personal. She describes herself as a mental health survivor who finds healing in nature and peace. “I am a mental health survivor and I find healing in nature and peace, so that’s how I discovered like when we hug trees we get grounded even spiritually,” she says. Her mission goes beyond personal healing, she hopes her actions spark conversations about environmental protection and inspire others to take small, meaningful steps.

Her preparation for this record was meticulous. She spent five months preparing, including walking 42 kilometers, and undertook mental preparation to avoid negative energy. Muthoni’s dedication demonstrates that achieving a world record is not merely about endurance, but about focus, intention, and the courage to challenge systemic hurdles.
Through this effort, she not only secures her name in the Guinness World Records but also positions herself as an advocate for environmental awareness and social justice, showing the world that love, persistence, and action no matter how challenging can truly make a difference.
