“I will nominate Maraga as my Attorney General,” says Peter Salasya

Presidential hopeful and Mumias East Member of Parliament, Peter Salasya, has promised to appoint former Chief Justice David Maraga as Attorney General if he clinches the top seat in the 2027 general elections.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Salasya lauded Maraga’s “integrity and unwavering commitment to justice,” highlighting his exceptional track record as the head of the judiciary.

“I will nominate Maraga as my Attorney General. In his career, he demonstrated high moral character and compliance with ethical standards,” the MP posted.

Salasya’s announcement comes just a day after Maraga declared his own intentions to run for the presidency, signaling a potential shift in political alignments ahead of the upcoming 2027 race.

Maraga, who served as Kenya’s Chief Justice from 2016 to 2021, is widely remembered for his historic 2017 ruling that nullified the re-election of former president Uhuru Kenyatta – a landmark decision in Kenya and across Africa.

However, MP Salasya’s campaign is currently on hold. In an Instagram post on Monday, June 16, 2025, Salasya, who seeks to unseat President William Ruto, stated that he would resume his presidential campaigns only once the “real killers” of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang’ are revealed.

He specified that the matter should be concluded within a week to allow him to resume his “vote-hunting mission.”
