Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s daughter, Saumu Mbuvi, has sparked conversation online after speaking out about the safety of women and children following a disturbing incident in Mathira, where a young girl was reportedly found dead in a pit latrine.
Reacting to the news through her Instagram Stories, Saumu expressed anger and concern over rising cases of violence, particularly against vulnerable groups. She questioned the safety of women and children in society, writing, “Must women always live in fear, even innocent kids? Enough of the killings.”
In a statement that quickly drew public attention, Saumu emphasized the importance of both upbringing and self-protection.

“Teach your sons how to respect women because I’m going to teach my daughters how to handle a licensed gun,” she said.
The remarks come amid growing national concern about security and the protection of women and minors, with many Kenyans continuing to call for stronger preventive measures, justice for victims, and social responsibility in addressing violence.
Saumu also reflected on her personal experience as a single mother, highlighting the challenges many parents face while raising children independently.
She encouraged society to acknowledge and support single mothers working to provide stability for their families.
“When you see any single mother out there doing it all by herself… while rebuilding herself, give her flowers,” she said.
“We wear so many hats,” she added, pointing to the emotional, financial, and personal responsibilities that come with parenting alone.
Her message has resonated with many online, sparking discussions about parenting, safety, and the broader responsibility of communities in protecting children and empowering women.
