Infertility fears, battle with fibroids and social media trolls: The story of Wapendwa Muziki

Entertainment

Wapendwa Muziki has become one of Kenya’s most beloved gospel music duos, capturing hearts with their harmonious melodies and authentic story of faith and patience.

Composed of husband and wife Meshack (Mesh) Mpendwa and Ninah Mpendwa, this talented pair has built a remarkable following by sharing their musical journey and personal testimony across social media.

The duo began their musical journey in 2014, blending vocal talents and songwriting skills to create inspirational gospel music infused with traditional African rhythms.

What started as a shared passion eventually blossomed into marriage, establishing them as a prominent force in Kenya’s gospel scene.

They’re highly active on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, where they share music and glimpses into their daily lives, building a loyal fanbase through their openness and authenticity.

Their latest hit, “Bonge la Surprise,” has taken the gospel world by storm, racking up over one million views on YouTube in just one month.

But this is not just another viral song.

The track carries profound personal significance, celebrating what the couple describes as their greatest miracle.

On October 9, 2025, Mesh and Ninah announced they were expecting their first child through an emotional social media post.

The announcement sent shockwaves of joy through their fanbase, especially after the couple had been candid about their nine-year battle with fears of infertility.

In early January 2026, they welcomed their baby boy, whom they lovingly call their miracle baby.

For nearly a decade, the couple struggled to conceive, a journey marked by heartbreak and countless prayers.

Ninah openly discussed her battle with fibroids, one of the obstacles complicating their path to parenthood.

Through it all, they leaned heavily on faith, choosing patience and prayer over despair.

Their pregnancy became a powerful testimony of God’s timing, resonating with countless couples facing similar struggles.

The couple met at church where Ninah was performing as a solo a cappella artist and Mesh was the pianist.

During a concert, when it was Ninah’s turn to perform, Mesh started playing along despite her doing a cappella.

“I had a feeling he was starting to flow. And I was like, okay, this guy is good. So the performance was amazing,” Ninah recalled.

The name Wapendwa, meaning “beloved ones” in Swahili, was Mesh’s idea.

It represents everyone, particularly Christians, reflecting their mission to bring people into their circle of faith.

“We’re representing Christ and we want everyone to be in our circle,” they explained, during an interview before they went viral.

Today, Wapendwa Muziki stands as a testament to faith, perseverance and authentic ministry. Their music inspires, their story encourages, and their miracle baby serves as a living reminder that God’s timing is always perfect.
